MN Legislative Commission to End Poverty


Mission Statement
MN Legislative Commission to End Poverty by 2020 (LCEP) mission is to develop guidelines to end poverty.  Prepare recommendation on how to end poverty in Minnesota by 2020.

In 2006, Senator Hottinger and Representative Abeler introduced bills requesting the creation of an 18 member bi-partisan, bi-cameral commission to develop strategies to end poverty in Minnesota by 2020.

Established by the Legislature in 2006
Minnesota Laws 2006 Chapter 282, article 2, section 27.

Detailed recommendations of the Commission's three primary objectives - "to help Minnesotans become more financially self-sufficient; to build assets at both the individual and the community levels; and to eliminate barriers preventing those living in poverty from finding gainful employment and moving forward with their lives." The recommendations and six broad strategies for ending poverty in Minnesota by 2020 are now available in the full Legistlative Report.
