In 2006, Senator Hottinger and Representative Abeler introduced bills
requesting the creation of an 18 member bi-partisan, bi-cameral commission to
develop strategies to end poverty in Minnesota by 2020.
Detailed recommendations of the Commission's three primary objectives - "to
help Minnesotans become more financially self-sufficient; to build assets at both the
individual and the community levels; and to eliminate barriers preventing those living in
poverty from finding gainful employment and moving forward with their lives."
